Drive to L'Anse aux Meadows
We left Rocky Harbour mid morning for a 4 hour drive to L'Anse aux Meadows on the North Peninsula. We had beautiful weather the entire day! It is a beautiful but LONG drive along the western coast. We stopped along the way several times. We found some working fishing villages and the towns seemed more prosperous as we went north. I don't really understand that but it may be related to viable fishing operations. First we stopped at Cowshead just north of Rocky Harbour and I will post the photos we took just across the causeway. As we travelled North we could see the Labrador coastline before turning east toward L'Anse aux Meadows. We were thrilled to see icebergs so late in the season! It is a desolate but beautiful spot and our B&B has some great views! Viking Village B&B. It has a great deck with views of the ocean!Tomorrow we will visit the L'anse Aux Meadows heritage site where the Vikings tried to make a permanent settlement 1000 years ago.
